Your mom gave me the link to your blog. It looks great, and I'll look forward to reading more about your adventures.

Anyway, I can help out with what your referred to a "Laybor" above. I assume she was actually referring to LIBOR, which stands for London InterBank Offered Rate. It's a key interest rate that many variable rate mortgages are tied to, even in other countries.

I also second Jacob's advice. The tradeoff between paying more points vs. a lower interest rate depends on how long you plan to keep the mortgage. If you are going to move or refinance in a few years, it's not worth paying a lot of points up-front.

We bought our first home 25 years ago, and even though my husband and I are economists with a lot of knowledge about finance, I still remember being intimidated by the process. I think there are fast-talking mortgage salespeople everywhere, and it's good you are asking lots of questions!

A mortgage is a big commitment. The best thing I can advise is that you find a good lawyer to look over all the fine print before you sign anything.

-MaryMary O'Keeffehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662977706706048151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5746038026718535483.post-50703503412498976992009-07-12T11:27:45.073+03:002009-07-12T11:27:45.073+03:002% interest rate? How many points are you buying t...2% interest rate? How many points are you buying to get that rate? I'd advise against buying too many points unless you will live in the apartment for a long time.

http://www.bankisrael.gov.il/deptdata/pikuah/ribit/mortgagee.htm

-JacobJacobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09905974151063322348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5746038026718535483.post-1944910237503353532009-07-08T19:24:46.222+03:002009-07-08T19:24:46.222+03:00we will be looking for an apartment about a year f...we will be looking for an apartment about a year from now... and i am SO glad my husband is israeli to figure it out. i am going to miss my credit score i worked so hard on...

thank you for all the insight...Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02260319781933413871noreply@blogger.com
